Hello,
I’ve read a few posts on this forum regarding alloy wheel refurbishment. I was wondering if anyone knows of a corrosion inhibitor suitable for use on alloy wheels? I am helping a friend of mine to bring a 1984 Lancia Beta HPE VX (supercharged) back to it’s former glory. The one thing that badly lets this very nice and extremely low mileage one owner car down, is the state of it’s alloys. No kerb damage, but most of the factory applied finish has long since departed leaving a heavily pitted and corroded surface. A local wheel specialist has recommended powder coating the wheels. Neither of us know much about powder coating or it’s pros and cons when applied to road wheels. I much prefer the old fashioned method of paint and lacquer. But, regardless of what finish is applied to the wheels, the corrosion issue needs to be dealt with first.Worringly,my Brother had a set of aluminium garden seats powder coated a couple of years ago . The powder coating has now begun to bubble and fall off, when he complained about this he was told that it was caused by underlying corrosion! He now describes powder coating as an out and out con But then he would, wouldn’t he?
